Support GroupsWe have collected a list of support groups and listed them below by category. Check out our lists of support groups in Maine. Feel free to contact one for more information or to join.

Foster/Adoptive Groups...

  • Androscoggin and Oxford County: Post Adoption. Christine Fournier or Ursula Hanson, 772-4110.
     
  • Augusta: This group alternates between Augusta & Waterville on the 3rd Monday of the month. Meetings will be held at Augusta DHHS office on 35 Anthony Avenue.
     
  • Biddeford: Foster/Adoptive Support. Meets from 9:00 to 11:00 am, the 1st Thursday of every month. For more information please contact Meredith Crain at 283-4314 or Susan Young at 284-4424; please call before you come.
     
  • Brunswick Area Support Group: Tammy Cutchen 809-3218. Tammy also runs ‘The Clothing Garage’ in Brunswick. Give her a call for either service. 
     
  • Farmington: Foster/Adoptive/Kinship: Alisa Everett, 778-4673. Group will no longer be meeting, but she will be available to answer questions for anyone who calls.
     
  • Harmony: Foster/Adoptive Support. Steve or Sandi Ephrussi, 683-6942.
     
  • Houlton: Adoptive Support. Doesn’t meet during the summer - Meets the 1st Monday of the month, 7 Cow Team Road, Sherman. Call Debbie Irish 365-7133.
     
  • Knox County: Foster/Adoption Support. Last Thursday of every month, 7-9pm. Fellowship Hall, Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church. Laurie Pierce, 594-2042
     
  • Lewiston: Tri-County Foster/Adoption. Meeting at Lewiston DHHS fourth Tuesday of month, 7:00-9:00 pm. Annette Wilson, 353-7071
     
  • Lewiston: Adoptive Parents of Challenging Children. Christine Fournier - Casey Family Services Call Tuesdays, 772-4110.
     
  • Lincoln: Foster and Adoptive support. Cathy Oliver 290-1610. Enfield @ Green Valley Golf Course. Meets the last Wednesday of the Month
     
  • Portland: Adoptive Parents of Challenging Children. Karen Repasky - Casey Family Services, Please call: 772-4110.
     
  • Portland: District 2 DHHS Office, 161 Marginal Way. 4th Wednesday of every month, 5:30-7:00. Training component, open discussion/support group. Pizza and childcare available on a limited basis. Call Susan Hughes 822-2191.
     
  • Presque Isle: Adoption/Foster parent support. Peter Crovo - CHCS, 532-5510.
     
  • Skowhegan: Art Grant , CHCS 1-800-437-9227 5:30– 8:00pm This is a pot luck, which incorporates a training component in addition to support. It is open to foster, adoptive OR kinship providers. Call first! This is a solid group and welcomes new members. If you are in this region, and would like to meet others and share ideas and concerns, this is the group.
     
  • Waterville:  This group alternates between Augusta & Waterville on the 3rd Monday of every Month. 
  • York County: Southern Maine Support for Foster/Adoptive Parents. Tish Dennis, 324-2522. 1st & 3rd Sunday @6:30pm
     
  • York County: Foster/Adoptive Support. Meets from 9:00 to 11:00 am, the first Thursday of every month. For more information please contact Meredith Crain at 283-4314 or Susan Young at 284-4424. Please call before you come.

Mentors Needed...
AFFM utilizes the volunteer services of experienced foster, adoptive and kinship providers to assist and support those who are in the beginning stages of placements or who are struggling with unfamiliar issues related to foster care, adoption or kinship care. Volunteer mentors will be provided with training, please call Bette at 800-833-9786 for more information.
